Backbends counteract the effects of gravity, which means they are anti-aging! They maintain and restore suppleness to the spine. These group of postures opens the heart and the entire front body, calming the brain. In a more integrated, holistic way they develop strength, flexibility, clarity, and fearlessness in body and mind, and contribute to a more resilient nervous system. When they are practiced with integrity and regularity, they can be soothing and therapeutic.
We will incorporate/review the fundamentals of Part 1 during our opening asana practice and deepen into the postures a bit more. “Lab” work will introduce one or two more advanced backbends to explore, experience, and appreciate with increased awareness and understanding.
Yogis who can’t attend the first session, but would like to attend the second must receive Colleen’s approval.
