Yokasta SemiramyHometown: NYC!Training: Licensed Massage Therapist and Reiki MasterOfferings at MBSY: Massage Therapy (combination of various modalities: swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, shiatsu, abhyanga) and Reiki. Why did you become a healer?: I've been studying holistic healing, nutrition, mindfulness, Reiki and various other healing techniques since 2007. My journey began as a child who was truly intrigued by the metaphysical world and human nature. My studies led me to a profound appreciation of the resilience of my community and ancestors, and how self-healing and community healing were used as a form of social resistance and spiritual growth. I embraced my path of assisting others (and myself) when I remembered that it has always been in our nature to auto-heal and connect to something greater than ourselves.Your healing philosophy: Our healing journey is truly a journey back to ourselves, to our roots, to our divine source, to our true self-healing nature, to the space and place we call home...our holistic bodies.Life outside the studio: Connecting to others is what I do best, so I absolutely adore spending time with my two children and husband, with the greater family, and other extended members of my tribe (friends!). I also LOVE exploring NYC, being a nerd for all things holistic, listening to percussion-infused music, watching movies, and doing yoga (even if that means engaging a pose while standing on the train or walking around the city). Life philosophy/Favorite quote: “Healing is a different type of pain. It’s the pain of becoming aware of the power of one’s strength and weakness, of one’s capacity to love or do damage to oneself and to others, and of how the most challenging person to control in life is ultimately yourself.” ― Caroline Myss
Jissel RaveloHometown: Bronx, NYTraining: Certified in Reiki, Energy Healing, Meditation and Holistic Psychology CounselingOfferings at MBSY: Reiki Healing (Private & Group Sessions) & WorkshopsWhy did you become a healer?: The techniques I use to help others in their healing, are the very same techniques that helped me heal depression and anxiety. Holistic Medicine saved my life. I want everyone who is in pain to know they have the same option.Your healing philosophy: I believe we all have the power to heal and grow despite our circumstances. The key is in discovering the right combination of techniques to suit the individual.Life outside the studio: I’m a total nerd, knowledge is my fuel. I admit to geeking out over sci-fi too. Music is big within my circle, you’ll always find me singing and dancing. I love exploring and capturing sights through pictures. I believe it is important to document our lives.Life philosophy/Favorite quote: Strive for progress, not perfection.

Why did you become a healer?: In my genes, soul and spirit. The study of the inner energetic and physiology of the body is a natural attraction for me. Saying anything else would be like calling The Dao...The Dao.
Your healing philosophy: Create a new you because returning to what you were has past.
Life outside the studio: Anime. Meditation. Food. Study. Chi-Kung. Sleep....not necessarily in that order.
Life philosophy/Favorite quote: 'What more can be said...about anything.' - Me

Why did you become a healer?: Well over a decade ago I stumbled into the world of Chinese medicine through an existing interest in healthcare and a nascent but rapidly deepening kung fu practice. Naturally, as I became more invested in my martial arts practice, my interest in the philosophical and physiological underpinnings of the art grew. As I considered what type of healthcare I wanted to provide, the combination of these interests led me synergistically (you might say inevitably) to Chinese medicine.
Your healing philosophy: I am committed to providing my patients with compassionate, holistic healthcare. Through my treatments, I seek to activate the body's innate healing ability; and through encouragement and education, I strive to empower my patients to become fully participant and invested in their health and treatment outcomes. My passion for for what I do derives not only from the elegance, holism, and efficacy of the medicine, but from the empowerment and therapeutic results that arise from a focused and compassionate practitioner-patient relationship.
Life outside the studio: Working in my downtown practice and at The YinOva Center; dancing the 5 Rhythms; practicing the piano (after a 22 year hiatus); hanging out with the coolest (and cutest) 3-legged dog ever (as well as a couple of mischief-making cats); enjoying uptown's fabulous parks; and maybe, just maybe, swinging a tennis racket now and again.

Why did you become a healer?: I don't consider myself a healer. I just help others unlock their own healing potential. It's in there already.
Your healing philosophy: Listen without judgement, don't try to "fix" anything. Just provide support and the body will go back into balance, in its own time, in its own way.
Life outside the studio: Leading MELT teacher trainings all over the country, and taking care of my little girl.
Life philosophy/Favorite quotation: A little self-care goes a long way.
